Restricting ASML's growth
Following Philips' departure, Eindhoven has once again built up an impressive and fruitful high-tech industry, but due to the enormous growth in recent years, the Eindhoven region is feeling the negative consequences more and more acutely. ASML's explosive growth has been accompanied by a huge shortage of housing, personnel, facilities, electricity and, soon, drinking water.
While the red carpet was rolled out for this monopolist, nature, social cohesion and community spirit have been squeezed out. From now on, Eindhoven will prioritise well-being over prosperity and focus not on economic growth, but on the flourishing of the region.
As long as ASML continues to grow, we will ensure that it does not swallow up Eindhoven. The pace of construction of housing and facilities dictates the maximum growth of the company, not the other way around, as is currently the case.
Democratic processes are not being bypassed. The city council is being given sufficient time to make informed decisions. Resident participation precedes this, and the results form an important part of the deliberations.
